Daddy Issues Movie Poster (#1 Of 2)

Daddy Issues” by Ochiai Ken will close activities for the 2019 Osaka Asian Film Festival which will take place from March 8th - 17th, in Osaka, Japan. There are very few characters in this extremely short film which clocks in at under 80 minutes without credits, and it is all the better for it. The pacing and focus are tight, and whilst some montages may linger on for slightly too long, it never feels as though a scene is unnecessary.

Andy's father has shown neither hide nor hair throughout this trilogy; the vaguely named mom” was left to raise two children and hold down a full-time job (and presumably, pay for Andy's college) all on her own. The core story here involves a man coming to terms with his father's legacy — an American hero who abandoned his family and is now suspected of endangering the entire planet — and it plays well as that drama.

Directed by Miranda Bailey, the film itself is similarly depleted: It's a period movie with little style and a family flick wholly lacking in charm or warmth. This is a crucial time for learning about this other person, so take your time and allow the relationship to develop.

Jasmine is the least complete character in the Daddyissuesthemovie movie, a creature of pure id and desire who begins to crumble when faced with real hardship for the first time. What other movies tell you, Daddy Issues shows you, and does so with an effortless artfulness. The look of Daddy Issues is as much of a breath of fresh air as is this remarkably original story being told.

However, when Maya learns that Jasmine is involved in a sugar daddy-like situation with a male, the idea of their own relationship gets thrown for a loop and craziness ensues. It's common for these women to end up in abusive relationships and accept unacceptable behavior.

The personalities portrayed in the film lack sense and consistency: For example, Jasmine radically shifts at the end from someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with Maya to adopt a get-out-of-my-face” attitude, in an evolution so extreme that it becomes laughable.
